I only know you as Jeremy - what is behind your alter ego brainsik?

Well, since you asked, here is the story:

My first (legit) internet account was with netcom in 1994. Being a rather rebellious teen, I wanted a name that reflected my insanity, but none so obvious as "insane". I had a hobby of reading about the brain and somehow these ideas converged to 'brainsick':

From ~WordNet (r) 1.7.1 (July 2002) ~wn:

 brainsick
adj : affected with madness or insanity; "a man who had gone mad"
            [syn: {crazy}, {demented}, {distracted}, {disturbed}, {mad},
             {sick}, {unbalanced}, {unhinged}]

Since Netcom could only accept 8 char usernames (and passwords), the name got truncated to 'brainsik'. Since all of my logins everywhere are brainsik, it's easier to keep the username alive (makes for shorter ssh command invocations).

Incidentally, if you google search for 'brainsik', I am pretty much the sole author of the pages that come up. (There is an oscillation where two other people show up and disappear). I have not decided whether uniqueness is a bad or good thing, i can see both sides. It is, however, a somewhat rare thing these days.

Anyway, :), you asked.
