The primary problem with building trust in a Gnutella style network is the shear amount of turnover of online nodes. How can you build trust in a system where the individuals come and go very rapidly and you aren't guranteed to see any of them ever again?

Some ideas of how to deal with this:

1. keep track of all the people (IPs) you see and find out who the regulars are

if there is a set of people who are regularly around, you can hope to build trust with them.
